The purpose of the camp is to:

  • Enhance their middle school band experience
and prepare them for high school jazz band.
  • Give students the opportunity to learn from, and play alongside jazz teachers and educators, as
well as professional musicians from the local community.
Sessions are offered for brass, woodwinds, and rhythm section, in Theory, Improvisation, Big Band, Combo, sectionals, jazz listening and private lessons. Click here to register. The camp is held at the SEMM Foundation Main Campus.

Tuition is $249 and includes all classes, teaching materials, a Jazz Camp T-Shirt and CD of the final concert.
A meal plan is available. Scholarships are awarded to students who would not otherwise be able to attend
camp without tuition help. Most scholarships are for one-half tuition ($125). Click here for scholarship information.

After Registering

Camp Director holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education A University.

On your first day of camp, you'll be playing audition for one of the teachers. The function of the audition is to
help us find out what skills you already have, and which skills we can work on while you're at camp. It will also
help us assign music that is the proper level for you. So there's nothing to be nervous about - just show us what
you can do!

Print off and practice the audition piece for your instrument. If you intend to play more than one instrument at
camp, print and practice each piece. Click here to obtain audition music.

We're looking forward to seeing you!

Students will be under appropriate adult supervision by teachers and staff at all times.

Other staff includes area high school and college directors and teachers. Professional musicians from the
community will assist in combo work and provide "real-world" playing experience for the students.
